Well...here we are...safe and sound in Smithers, BC, after a 2 day drive from home. We left the 'little shack on the hill' on Friday morning, after the final packing of odds and ends, a quick vacuum and tidy (I hate to leave the shack messy) and goodbyes to critters we won't see for longer than ever! We spent the first night 'camped' in the Walmart parking lot in Quesnel...so cool you can stay there in your RV!...and then the rest of the way to our friends, Lance and Nicole, in Telkwa, just east of Smithers on Saturday. No problems pulling the trailer at all, and the trip went by quickly. Yay!
Wednesday will be the first day we meet our employers and see the ktichen trailer for the first time. I'm excited to see where I'll be working and what equipment there is. The idea of being back cooking for huge amounts of people has me feeling both eager and a tad nervous! I know once we get in there and start producing meals the jitters will pass and it will all be fine. Just have to get over that first hurdle of the first meal.
As we wait to get started, we have been exploring Smithers. We lived here from 1995 to 2001, and had Alley here. Jordan had not been back since we passed through on a move south 8 years ago. It's fun to see the changes, and what has stayed the same. Such a pretty area with the rolling fields and snowy moutains. Hudson Bay Mountain is spectacular! Our first full day in the area was a lovely warm spring day and spent relaxing, visiting and rejuvinating. Much needed after the hectic preparations for coming away.
Trailer life thus far has been quite comfortable! Still going through the 'place for everything' stage, but otherwise, pretty dang good! Even the kittens seem happy to be confined to the small quarters. More on them in another entry!
Off to do some more exploring!
